Microsoft Sues More Android Devices MakersSoftware Patents and Smartphones Microsoft sued Barnes & Noble and two of its contract manufacturers, Foxconn and Inventec this monday, over the librarian’s Nook e-book reader for patent infringement. Microsoft filed the legal charge in U.S. District Court of Washington DC and with the U.S. ITC. charging the bookseller, Foxconn International and Inventec with infringement in conjunction with the Nook. However, Microsoft’s statement showed they are apparently going to target the Android operating system itself. Deputy General Counsel Horacio Gutierrez is reported saying that “Android platform infringes a number of Microsoft’s patents". Gutierrez said that others, such as HTC, have licensed Microsoft patents for use within Android based mobile phones, and that Microsoft had tried to reach a similar agreement with Barnes and Nobles, Foxconn and Inventec. Microsoft has also sued Motorola because of their use of the Android operating system in mobile phones. |
